The Geronimo Pattern is inspired by a Pendleton Robe worn by the legendary Apache leader in a photograph from the 1900s. The traditional banded stripe has a jagged sawtooth pattern in fiery colors reminiscent of Southwestern textiles.
Geronimo was a medicine man, seer, and spiritual leader. Born in 1829, he was a member of the Chiricahua band of Apache, a migratory people who followed the seasons while hunting and farming.
He displayed a single-minded determination to preserve his peoples land through any means necessary while leading his people's defense of their homeland against the U.S. military in the 1870s and 1880s. His 1886 surrender marked the end of American Indian resistance against the U.S. military, but his name lives on as a symbol of fearlessness.
